A Vancouver woman who set fire to a porch in the Rose Village neighborhood was sentenced Thursday and given credit for time served.

Ashley S. Harper, 25, pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to second-degree arson stemming from the Dec. 17 fire at 3307 U St. She originally faced attempted first-degree arson but that charge was amended as part of a plea deal, according to her attorney, Lisa Toth.

Sasha Gibson called 911 at about 7:30 a.m. to report her house was being set on fire by Harper, whom she knows. Gibson said she heard a noise on the front porch, looked, and saw Harper holding a gas can over a fire in the middle of the porch, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Harper fled when Gibson confronted her, and left the gas can on the porch, the affidavit said.

A neighbor pulled a large smoldering rug from the porch, court records said.

Toth said Thursday that Harper was sentenced to 107 days, the total amount of time she already had served, and she would be released.
