TROUT LAKE — Comments are being sought by April 29 by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest regarding a forest restoration project proposed for the upper White Salmon River, Gotchen Creek and Morrison Creek areas in the Mount Adams Ranger District.

The area has insect and disease issues, overstocked tree plantations and a high risk of additional wildfires.

The proposal calls for commercial thinning of young plantations on about 1,680 acres, prescribed burning on approximately 1,320 acres, improving an existing fuel break along forest road No. 82, work on 470 aces suffering high levels of tree mortality and thinning, fire and planting on 3,000 acres at risk of future tree mortality.

More information is available from Erin Black, south zone planning team leader, at 509-395-3411 or ekblack@fs.fed.us.

Comments may be mailed, faxed or delivered to Darren Cross, Mount Adams District Ranger, 2455 Highway 141, Trout Lake, Wash., 98650 or fax 509-3424.

Electronic comments may be submitted to comments-pacificnorthwest-giffordpinchot-mtadams@fs.fed.us. Comments should specify Upper White Project and be in a .pdf, .doc or .rtf format.
