The Woodland Police Department received word of a man trying to pick up young girls.

Although police think there doesn’t seem to be any threat and are still working to determine precisely what happened, they said it’s a good time for parents to remind children about how to talk to strangers.

The department said last week it received a report that a man in his mid-60s driving a burgundy Chevrolet Blazer or similar sport-utility vehicle had contacted some local girls.

Woodland police Chief Phil Crochet said officers have contacted and identified the man.

“For right now we don’t really have any reason to believe that he’s actively trying to pick up kids,” Crochet said.

Still, the police are looking into it, he said.

Crochet added that the department posted a notice about the call on its Facebook page in part to remind people to be vigilant, but also to remind parents and caregivers to talk to their children about being safe when interacting with strangers.
