A Harvard nutrition research scientist answered a Redditor’s question about whether coffee is bad for you, setting off a new round of headlines about coffee’s merits or risks.

Vasanti Malik said that the majority of scientific research says coffee can have health benefits, noticed New York Magazine’s science blog. At the least, it won’t ruin your stomach lining, as the person was asking about.

As with many foods — eggs and chocolate are especially subject to this treatment — a new study on whether coffee is good or bad for your health sets off a heated debate. All that information can be confusing.
