Save the Date: Adorable alpacas await; quilts galore

• Collect a few alpaca kisses during the annual Alpacapalooza, as owners, breeders and enthusiasts will gather for this regional show that celebrates raising alpacas and alpaca fiber. The public can meet the alpacas and learn more from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. • In the era of quick quilts via sewing machine, accomplished hand-quilter Ruth Rudolph will showcase the art of basting and hand-piecing quilts. She will give a presentation at 1 p.m. today and Sunday, along with multiple of her quilts on display at the North Clark Historical Museum, 21416 N.E. 399th St., Amboy. Head over to the Mountain Valley Grange, 40107 N.E. 221st Ave., for the 11th annual North Clark Historical Museum Quilt Show, with several quilts displayed, along with vendors, a scavenger hunt and the Corner Cafe. • The Vancouver Symphony highlights young talent as the three gold medalists of the 22nd annual Young Artists Competition perform with the orchestra. The Young Artists winners are cellist Richard Lu, pianist Lauren Yoon and pianist Anthony Zheng. The concerts will also feature three musical stories, “The Mother Goose Suite,” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Merry Pranks.” The concerts begin at 3 p.m. April 9 and 7 p.m. April 10 at Skyview Concert Hall, 1300 N.W. 139th St., Vancouver. • In celebration of 100 years of the National Park Service, the week of April 16 through April 24 will be fee-free. Kicking off the celebration is Junior Ranger Day from noon to 3 p.m. April 16, as kids of all ages can take part in hands-on activities to earn a Junior Ranger badge from both Pearson Air Museum and Fort Vancouver, 1115 E. Fifth St., Vancouver. • The Firstenburg Community Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a free day of activities. • Join the 25th annual Walk/Run for the Animals on May 7 at Esther Short Park, 301 W. Eighth St., Vancouver. There will be a 3-mile walk along the Columbia River with water stations for people and dogs. A 5K timed run will be open to both runners and their dogs. Registration is $30 to $45, free for ages 12 and younger. • The 3 Grands Concert for the Blind features three grand pianos, three blind musicians and one jazz vocalist performing popular and classical favorites.
