Fircrest — Furry Friends’ largest fundraiser of the year saw about 200 people dress up in 1920s-style clothing and head to the Firstenburg Community Center, where the no-kill shelter raised a little less than $30,000.

The fundraiser’s “Great Catsby” theme featured an auction with prizes such as hotel stays, wine-tasting tours and travel vouchers. At the event, $25,981 was raised for the nonprofit’s “Special Building Fund” so that Furry Friends can purchase its own permanent building for the cats, and $3,320 will go to “Connie’s Fund,” which covers medical expenses and costs for approximately 200 cats and kittens the organization rescues and re-homes each year.
