Portland State dominates Western Oregon in 31-0 rout

PORTLAND — Alex Kuresa threw for 127 yards, ran for 55 and scored once to lead Portland State past Division II Western Oregon 31-0 on Saturday.

Nate Tago had 18 carries for 69 yards and a score, and the Vikings’ Steve Long and Josh Kraght added rushing touchdowns. The Vikings (3-0) outrushed the Wolves 256 to 27.

Western Oregon’s Trey Shimabukuro was 18-for-35 for 182 yards but was intercepted twice. Backup David Sowards also threw a pick. Portland State’s Xavier Coleman had two interceptions and Patrick Onwuasor also had a pick. The two combined for 70 yards of interception returns.

Portland State held Western Oregon (1-3) to 10 first downs.

After a scoreless first, Kuresa got the Vikings going on a seven play, 60-yard drive capped by his scoring plunge from 2 yards out for a 7-0 lead. Kraght ran 25 yards to make the score 14-0 four minutes later.
