Union traveled nearly 150 miles from home on Saturday to find something it had lost.
Coming off two consecutive defeats, the Titans got back to playing their kind of football in a 56-0 win over Spanaway Lake near Tacoma.
“I thought we played with a lot more of the excitement that we had been missing,” Union coach Gary McGarvie said. “We got back to being physical.”
Union (2-2, 0-1) had given up 562 rushing yards last week against Mountain View. But Saturday, it was the Titans who imposed their will.
Union jumped to a 29-0 lead after one quarter and led 50-0 at halftime. Spanaway Lake fell to 1-3.
Jordan Lawson threw two touchdown passes to Keithen Shepard, who also had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Freshman JoJo Siofele rushed for a team-high 80 yards and two touchdowns, including a 35-yarder in the third quarter. Nate Kuratli returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown.
Perhaps most pleasing to McGarvie was that Union had zero turnovers.
“I just know that our focus, whether win or lose, is all about us,” McGarvie said. “The kids did great job this week of taking the extra practice and cleaning up the mistakes we had been making.”
