The headquarters for police and firefighters in Battle Ground are getting a new name in honor of Councilor Bill Ganley, a longtime public servant to the city.
On Monday, the council unanimously approved a proposal to rename the city’s public safety complex — two separate police and fire buildings near Main Street and Southwest Fifth Avenue — the William J. Ganley Public Safety Complex. The change went into effect immediately, as a new sign bearing Ganley’s name was unveiled Monday night.
Ganley’s time with the city dates back more than 20 years to when he was appointed to the city’s planning commission in 1991. Six years later, he would serve as the city’s first mayor under the council-manager form of government Battle Ground uses today.
Ganley currently is serving his sixth term on the Battle Ground City Council.
