Marquis Sampson’s 5-yard touchdown run with 3:56 left in the game lifted Evergreen to a 6-3 win over Heritage in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League game Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

A bad snap on a punt gave Evergreen the ball on the Heritage 18 yard line. After Dustin Nettles rushed 13 yards to the 5, Sampson carried it in for the score.

Heritage had two chances with the ball after the score, but the Plainsmen stopped them on downs. Evergreen (2-1, 1-0 4A GSHL) sealed the win on an interception by Nicholas Rossmeisl.

Sampson finished with 111 yards rushing on 27 carries. Dallas Goodpaster added 55 yards on nine carries.

Kyle Hood’s 32-yard field goal on the second-to-last play of the first half gave Heritage a 3-0 lead.

Kalani Umiamaka rushed for 76 yards on 12 carries for the Timberwolves (2-1, 0-1).
