Summer will make a last bid for attention this weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures forecast to be the hottest for the rest of the month, and maybe even the year. Rain is expected to return next week.
Credit — or blame, if you’re ready for cooler, wetter autumn weather — goes to a strong ridge of high pressure over western states that is blocking weather systems off the Pacific and allowing warmer air to move in from the east.
Temperatures should reach into the low to mid 90s this afternoon and climb to the mid-80s Saturday as the ridge begins to weaken. Skies should remain mostly sunny through Sunday, when temperatures should fall into the mid-70s.
A big change in the weather is expected early next week, with a chance of rain and showers on Monday and Tuesday and rain likely on Wednesday. Highs will be in the 60s, with lows in the 50s.
