Thousands of people have already signed up for Susan G. Komen Oregon and Southwest Washington’s Portland Race for the Cure.
The 24th annual event begins with the 5K run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K walk at 8:45 a.m., Sept. 20 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park along Southwest Naito Parkway. A 1-mile family-friendly walk will begin at 9:15 a.m.
The event will include food carts, live entertainment and prizes.
The event is the Pacific Northwest’s largest breast cancer fundraiser of the year, according to Komen. About 75 percent of money raised supports local programs, such as early detection, treatment access, survivor support and education. The remaining 25 percent will go toward research occurring in Portland.
