Mount Adams Wilderness reopens

TROUT LAKE — Most of Mount Adams Wilderness, including the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and the climbing routes, is reopen to public use.

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest announced the opening Wednesday.

The Cougar Creek Fire is 97 percent contained. A closed area on Mount Adams remains between road No. 8040 on the west the Gifford Pinchot-Yakama Indian Nation boundary on the east.

Due to cooler, wetter weather, the ban on campfires outside developed recreation sites on the Gifford Pinchot is lifted.
