Camas — Members of the Camas-Washougal Rotary Club dropped more than 5,000 rubber ducks into the Washougal River as part of the annual Camas-Washougal Rotary Ducky Derby Race on July 26. Using some of the proceeds from the event, the Rotary recently filled 252 backpacks with school supplies for students in Camas and Washougal schools. The Duck Derby is the club’s largest fundraiser, with money going to backpacks, scholarships for high school students, dictionaries for every third-grader in Camas and Washougal, and the Young Men in Action/Young Women in Action programs for fifth-grade students at Hathaway Elementary School. “The fun of the Ducky Derby event is just the beginning,” Tom Crozier, president of the club, said in a release from the Rotary. “The true reward is being able to make a difference in lives of children in our local schools and communities.”
