With a slight chill in the air, fresh snow on the craggy Cascade peaks, autumn leaves beginning to glow, yep it is September in the great Pacific Northwest that we know.
Sunday’s high temperature only reached 60 degrees in Vancouver, some 18 degrees below normal. It was our fourth day in a row with highs in the 60s. We finally broke out of that pattern and into the 70s on Monday. We will warm into the 80s as the week progresses and maybe 90 degrees if east winds develop.
With the longer hours of darkness our temperatures drop quickly and we will see quite a difference with the night time hours when we get warmer this week. Better sleeping weather for sure.
With dire predictions of a strong El Ni?o this autumn and winter, I think we will see a swing of extremes as we go along. A typical El Ni?o brings us a fairly mild and drier-than-average winter. We already have had a few bites of extreme weather. Days and days of sweltering heat, record dryness and warmth. A winterlike record-breaking August windstorm — fast forward to the present string of chilly weather with record low minimum high temperatures and a painting of white on the Cascade peaks. What next?
