After the warmest meteorological summer (June, July and August) on record, we have a taste of autumn in the air. Fresh snow can be seen on the Cascade peaks, the first of the season, which we call termination dust.
We will struggle to get our temperatures back to seasonal normals the next few days as the persistent cold pool of air we talked about earlier will take its sweet time exiting the region. So, a chance of showers today and Friday, not much rain but a downpour if a thunderstorm develops.
This cooler weather pattern is a blessing for helping the wildfires and slowing the evaporation of surface waters. It also is enabling some of us to turn down or turn off the air conditioning.
Children went back to school Wednesday under partly cloudy skies, a few raindrops and cool temperatures. Probably a lot easier to sit in a classroom without the full sun and heat coming through the windows. The high in Vancouver was a pleasant 73 degrees, 7 degrees below the average of 80 degrees for the date.
