Next week’s annual Salmon Creek Cares Luncheon benefits the Child Abuse Assessment Team, which provides medical assessments for children who have experienced abuse. The team get hundreds of referrals every year and is involved in court proceedings.
The luncheon put on by the Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation is 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St.
The date of the luncheon is a significant date for keynote speaker Digene Farrar. She was in New York City on 9/11, two blocks away from the World Trade Center, when the first plane crashed into the building. Farrar ran to the scene to help, and was there when the second plane hit. The experience triggered memories of childhood sexual abuse, leading her to write the book “Not My Secret to Keep.” She’s also a nurse and a motivational speaker.
