Tom Baltes of Camas continues his ride across America and hopes to reach Fargo, N.D., by tonight or Friday.

On Tuesday, he did 87 miles in 90-degree temperatures in North Dakota.

Among the comments on his blog: “Have to compliment North Dakota on the condition of their rural roads. The surfaces are smoother than the roads in Washington and Montana, so my bike rolls along nicer.’’

Also, “Unlike the last two weeks when we got to do a lot of cruising downhill half the time, now my legs are going to have to work almost continuously on flatter terrain. Maintaining a steady tempo and an awareness when it drops off will be my mental challenge.’’
