GLENWOOD, Wash. — Nine smokejumpers parachuted in north of Mount Adams Lake on Tuesday on the Yakama Indian Nation to build a containment line in steep, rugged terrain of the Cougar Creek Fire.

The section is a critical area of the fire line, according to Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team No. 3, which is managing the 53,000-acre blaze.

Bull dozers, hand crews and fellers are continuing to improve contingency lines along Potato Hill Road.

The weather is expected to stay cool and cloudy for the rest of the week with isolated showers.

The perimeter is 60 percent contained. Personnel fighting the fire now numbers 538.
