2A-1A cross country: Ridgefield boys and girls claim district titles
Spudders' Griffith is district boys champion

It was sweep day for Ridgefield at the Class 2A district cross country championships in Woodland.
The Spudders won both the boys and girls teams titles and junior Silas Griffith was the individual champion in the boys race at Lewis River Golf Course.
Griffith covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 6 seconds to outdistance Austin Beasley of Mark Morris by seven seconds. Ridgefield’s Kyle Radosevich placed fifth in 16:23 as the Spudders easily claimed the team title over Tumwater 64-82. Hockinson placed fourth, and Washougal was fifth.
Also advancing to state as individuals were Ethan Mayers of Hudson’s Bay (ninth), Bailey Duncan (10th) and Aiden Pullen (15th) of Washougal, and Kyle Peterson (11th) and Derek Henderson (13th) of Hockinson.
Sophomore Lexie Rutherford placed fifth (20:01) and Sophie Miller and Hailey Figueras also placed in the top 10 to lead the Ridgefield girls to a win over Tumwater 66-83.
Hockinson placed third with 115 points to earn the third team berth to next weekend’s state meet in Pasco. Acacia Neveux (11th) and Hailee Neibauer (14th) paced the Hawks.
Natalie Biddix of Woodland was third (19:41) behind district champion Lauren Ericks of Tumwater (19:20). Also clinching individual berths to state were Hannah Swigert of Washougal (sixth) and McKenna Flanagan of Woodland (eighth).
1A DISTRICT: Senior Jenna Melanson breezed to an easy win in the 1A girls race to lead La Center to a narrow win in the team standings.
La Center outpointed Eatonville 53-55 for the team title. Columbia-White Salmon placed third and Seton Catholic was fourth to claim state meet berths.
Melanson won the race in 19:42, almost a full minute in front of runner-up Haley Blair of Columbia-White Salmon (20:38). La Center’s Sierra Harris placed seventh. There were no other local individual state qualifiers.
Nate Beed placed third overall behind district champion Jardon Hulsizer in the boys race. Hulsizer won in 16:47, while Beed timed at 17:30. Colin Howe of Columbia-White Salmon was fifth in 17:32.
Forks won the team title with 73 points, while Columbia-White Salmon (88 points) and La Center (95) clinched state berths.
Advancing to state as individuals were Jordan Vigil of Stevenson (sixth) and Josh Balsiger of Seton Catholic (eighth).
