Emily Phelps of Fort Vancouver girls cross country was voted The Columbian’s high school fall sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Oct. 24.

Phelps collected 49 percent of the 1,445 votes cast by fans to beat out Hannah Eha of Skyview swimming, who had 28 percent.

Phelps led a 1-2 Fort freshman finish at the 3A district meet, winning in 18:12.

The other nominees were Clayton Rajewich of King’s Way Christian golf, Taylor Erickson of Hockinson volleyball and Nick Neathamer of Columbia River tennis.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
