Washougal — Fourth-graders at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School are watching after 15 coho salmon, thanks to the Salmon in the Classroom program coordinated by Columbia Springs in partnership with Clark Public Utilities, which also funds the program.

The salmon were delivered Sept. 26 from nearby Washougal Hatchery, and the students will watch after them until November, when they will hold a party and release them into the Washougal River.

In January, the classes will receive 250 eggs from the Lewis River Hatchery, which they will watch hatch and grow. They will release those salmon in the Washougal River in May.
