Fairway-164th Avenue — More than 160 residents visited a safety fair at Fairway Village on Oct. 1 and 6, where they learned how to better prepare for a personal or area emergency. Eric Frank, Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency emergency management coordinator, and Judi Bailey, Vancouver neighborhoods program manager, made presentations and told guests what it might be like in a major emergency, and how each person and individual neighborhoods can be prepared. Bailey went over the Map Your Neighborhood tool, used nationally, that aims to help neighbors communicate and plan for emergency, and how each of the 50 blocks in the Fairway-164th Avenue Neighborhood have a block leader. She also said many blocks are meeting to discuss nine steps to take to be prepared, such as keeping emergency items available and knowing how to shut off water, gas and possibly electricity.
