Gonzales, Kuresa lead Portland State past Cal Poly, 38-35

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Alex Kuresa accounted for four touchdowns and Jonathan Gonzales kicked a 27-yard field goal with 33 seconds left to lift Portland State past Cal Poly 38-35 Saturday night.

Kuresa completed 16 of 25 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns and added 101 yards rushing and two more scores. Gonzales added field goals of 35 and 36 yards in the first quarter. Touchdown runs of 40 and 15 yards — less than three minutes apart — by Kuresa gave Portland State (6-1, 3-1 Big Sky) a 28-21 lead with 3:57 left in the third quarter.

Cal Poly (2-5, 1-3) tied it 2 ½ minutes later when wide receiver Kory Fox hit Kyle Lewis for a 57-yard touchdown. Kuresa hit Trent Riley for a 13-yard score on the Vikings’ next possession.

Lewis scored on a 29-yard run to tie it with 2:34 to play, setting up Gonzales’ kick to win it.
