Salmon Creek — Washington State University Vancouver named five recipients for the Community College President Awards. The transfer students will receive full tuition, ranging from $10,883 to $24,483 per year, depending on state residency, for up to two years. The award goes to students who show leadership potential, are community-service oriented and have a satisfactory GPA. There are five community colleges that participate in the program: Clark College, Lower Columbia College, Centralia College, Portland Community College Cascade Campus and Mt. Hood Community College. The award recipients are: Cheyenne DeFrates of Lower Columbia College, Alseny Diallo of Portland Community College, Kathy Fockler, of Clark College, Joscha Oswald of Centralia College, and Skye Troy of Mt. Hood Community College. “The recipient is selected directly by the president of the community college they attend,” said April Tovar, financial aid and scholarships manager at WSU Vancouver, in a release from the college. “There is only one award per year, renewable for a second year. As transfer students, the recipients have only two additional years to complete their bachelor’s degree.”
