Central Vancouver — Two Vancouver high schools are hosting exchange students this year: Matteo Valerin, from Italy, is attending Fort Vancouver High School, and Mara Turnaus, from Germany, is spending her school year at Hudson’s Bay High School. Valerin is on the tennis team and has enjoyed trying American food new to him, especially peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Turnaus plays on the Hudson’s Bay volleyball team, and is having fun taking classes not available to her in Germany. Both students are staying with host families and are attending school in America through the Aspect Foundation, a nonprofit that provides affordable exchange opportunities for students from more than 30 countries, as well as opportunities for American students to studying abroad.
