Save the Date: Outdoors, wine, chilling tale all beckon

See the lively forest of fall during Family Nature Fest at Columbia Springs, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway, Vancouver. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today visitors of all ages can take part in games, crafts and activities inspired by nature, kicking off with instrument making and sing-along with Recycle Man. The Oregon Zoo will give a presentation at 10 a.m., with a nature magic show with Angel Ocasio at 11:30 a.m. There will be guided nature hikes, including a bilingual hike and forest pharmacy hike, a scavenger hunt, and fish hatchery tours. Join the Confluence Winery as the vineyard celebrates the harvest season with its Harvest In the Vineyard from noon to 6 p.m. today and Sunday. Woodland’s theater company will bring a crime of passion to the stage with “Dial M for Murder.” Alfred Hitchcock’s crime thriller follows Tony Wendice, who married his socialite wife, Margot, for her money, and now he plans to kill her. So he arranges what he believes is the perfect crime. The play begins at 7:30 tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Love Street Playhouse, 126 Love St., Woodland. The production runs through Oct. 31. The classic expressionist film “The Golem” is inspired by the Jewish legend of creating creatures from clay. The Salmon Creek Farmers’ Market will host a special Halloween-themed market, with visitors encouraged to wear costumes, along with many pumpkins and Halloween treats for sale. Journey Theater presents the classic novel retold through song in “Anne of Green Gables: The Musical.” Orphan girl Anne travels to her new home on a farm, where she discovers happiness thanks to her pluck and personality. Celebrate Halloween and the harvest in one event starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 31 during the Apple Cider Pressing at the Cedar Creek Grist Mill. Volunteers will press about 10,000 pounds of apples into fresh cider. Visitors can help crank the press, wear costumes and enjoy the bluegrass jam on the back deck or tour the historic mill, 43907 N.E. Grist Mill Road, Woodland. Donations are encouraged.
