While Clark County and Camas police were searching for a suspect in a reported hit-and-run collision Friday night, the suspect made himself known by accidentally crashing into a patrol car.

Around 10:20 p.m., Camas police Officer Tyson Simmons was driving in the 6300 block of Northeast 232nd Avenue, searching for a 2005 Dodge truck. The truck, driven by 50-year-old Daniel Jones of Vancouver, collided with Simmons’ patrol car, the Camas Police Department said.

Simmons’ injuries were minor enough that he didn’t need medical attention. Jones had minor injuries and was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment. After he was released from the hospital, troopers with the Washington State Patrol booked Jones into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The State Patrol believes Jones did not intentionally hit Simmons’ patrol car.

While the State Patrol continues investing the officer-involved crash, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the initial reported hit-and-run.
