1. Collaborative sounds
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will offer two collaborations this weekend. It will join the Oregon Repertory Singers to help open the ensemble’s 42nd season, performing a classic piece of choral music, Antonin Dvor?k’s “Stabat Mater,” which helped launch the composer’s career. The Vancouver Symphony also kicks off its fifth Chamber Series with a piano extravaganza. Five Vancouver pianists, Cinda Redman, Lena Vozheiko-Wheaton, Kathy Edsill-Charles, Kathryn Hobbie and Michael C. Liu, will perform in two groups and all at once. 2. 20 Years of Dance
To celebrate the 20th year of Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, its dance program presents a performance of its current and alumni dancers. Many have gone on to teach, dance and choreograph professionally. Alumni include Eowyn Emerald Barrett, Brent Luebbert and Laura Aschoff. 3. Art in Hazel Dell
The Society of Washington Artists will celebrate its 53rd year with a professionally judged Fall Art Show and Sale. Visitors can see a variety of styles and diverse subject matter, including landscapes, wildlife, portrait and abstract art, created in a wide variety of media. The show judge is Joanne Kollman, a Northwest painter whose work ranges from commercial illustration to etchings and oil paintings. Meet the artists during the show reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17, with awards presented at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be served, with live music. Public viewing is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 at the H.H. Hall Building, 10000 N.E. Seventh Ave., Vancouver.
