Weather Eye: Sun not setting yet on unusually warm weather

We continue on a roll as pleasant weather keeps shining upon us. Today and Friday will be the warmest days of the week, with light east winds and highs in the 75- to 80-degree range. That’s far above normal for mid-October.

A weather system breaks through the ridge of high pressure and brings some rain Saturday. With any luck, Sunday may be dry, unless showers linger. Next week looks like a progressive regime of weather systems and fair weather mixed together.

Temperatures may still remain above average all next week. Maybe the beginning of autumn rainy season?

Precipitation is running far below average so far this year, with 17.58 inches tallied in the old rain bucket. That is seven inches below average. For the water year that ran from Oct. 1, 2014, through September 30, 2015, we had 32 inches of rain, 7.14 inches below average. In the 2013-14 water year, we had only 28.91 inches.

Temperature-wise, we all have felt the above-normal temperatures for some time now. We are running ,ore than 4 degrees above average this month for the average mean temperature. We have enjoyed above-average high temperatures every day this month so far except October 2. The normal high should be around 64 degrees, not the 70 degrees or better that we have grown accustomed to.

Sooner or later, reality will set in and we will have our jackets and cool, wet weather clothing on. Computer forecast models indicate a succession of storms at 24-36 hour intervals next week and maybe beyond. So keep the jacket or raincoat handy.
