Prep roundup: Mountain View tennis gives Union its first loss of season

A three-set victory at No. 1 doubles helped the Mountain View boys tennis team hand Union its only loss of the season.

The Thunder beat the Titans 4-2. Both teams have one loss with one week to play before district tournaments.

Mountain View’s Colton Reed and Nick Shraishi defeated Union’s Bjorn Morfin and Andrew Chanthavong 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 to help seal the team win.

Union’s Alex Calpagui and Jason Yu won at Nos. 1 and 3 singles for the Titans points.

The first time these two played, Union won on the basis of a total-games-won tiebreaker 55-54.

Union (12-1, 8-1 4A Greater St. Helens League) finishes league play with Skyview (9-2, 7-2) and Camas, while defending league champ Mountain View (10-1, 9-1) has Heritage and Skyview next week to close out its schedule.

Star of the day

• Savanna Craig, Mountain View girls cross country, placed fifth out of 253 runners at the Sandelie Invitational in Wilsonville, Ore., with a time of 17 minutes, 51.4 seconds on the 5,000-meter course.
