Non-league football: King’s Way Christian 48, Umatilla 28

In a tale of two halves, King’s Way defeated Umatilla 48-28 Friday night.

The Knights clung to a 7-6 halftime lead, although both teams had ample opportunities to score.

On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Liam Nabors found Matt Garrison, who leapt over the defender and ran 29 yards for the score. This would become a pattern, as Nabors and Garrison connected for two more touchdowns in the quarter.

Dustin Johnson, who scored in the first half, also caught a touchdown pass from Nabors in the third quarter.

The Knights scored on each possession in the third quarter to take a commanding 34-6 lead.

The Vikings of Umatilla refused to give in, however, as Jesus Ramirez threw for a touchdown and ran for two more.

It was to no avail, as Tristin Thibodeau of King’s Way recovered a fumble in the end zone and Nabors threw for another score, his fifth of the game.

Nabors ended with 442 yards passing, 228 of which were to Garrison.

Ramirez, who also had a strong night, threw for 192 yards and added a pair of passing and rushing touchdowns each.
