Battle Ground — Clark County Environmental Services held nine Green Neighbors Recycling Day events this year throughout the county, and the final collection was the largest documented recycling event in the county’s history.
On Oct. 3 in the Battle Ground High School parking lot, more than 800 people dropped off 1,100 pounds of block foam, 6,000 pounds of Freon appliances, 9,800 pounds of scrap metal, 14,000 pounds of tires, 17,000 pounds of electronic waste and 18,400 pounds of household hazardous waste during the four-hour event.
About 700 pounds of food was donated to the North County Community Food Bank at the event, as well.
“We had more people drop off items in the first hour of this event than we did during last year’s entire event,” Sally Fisher, senior environmental outreach specialist with environmental services, said in a release from the county. The county is currently planning recycling events for next year.
