Anthony Mannello of Vancouver woke up Saturday morning with a light dusting of snow on his tent, then walked the final miles to Monument 78, the northern terminus of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail at the Canadian border.
It was 186 days since he began his trip at the Mexican border in Campo, Calif.
“I walked all 2,650 miles without skipping or flip-flopping,’’ Mannello wrote on his blog. “Through-hiking this trail is an enriching, invigorating and humbling experience. One I wouldn’t trade for anything.’’
Mannello found the North Cascades a rugged and lonely place. He also articulated the bittersweet emotions expressed by many through-hikers.
