Community notebook: Area runners complete Portland Marathon

Amy Cooper of Camas won her age division and Taylor Halverson of White Salmon was the first runner from Southwest Washington to finish Sunday’s Portland Marathon.

Cooper, 34, was the sixth woman to finish the 26.2-mile race. Her time of 3 hours, 2 minutes and 55 seconds was fastest among women ages 30 to 34. She was also the second fastest runner from Southwest Washington.

Halverson, 36, finished 39th overall. His time was 2:53:59.

Other area runners who were among the first 500 finishers were: Don Conner, 52, of Battle Ground (128th in 3:07:07), Evan Klein, 22, of Camas (167th in 3:12:08), Daniel Lyne, 49, of Camas (171st in 3:12:18), Nick Barclay, 19, of Brush Prairie (233rd in 3:18:11), Niels Kofoed, 53, of Vancouver (280th in 3:21:35), Jesse Conway, 33, of Vancouver (297th in 3:22:41), Bo Liebe, 53, of Camas (358th 3:25:39), Peter Knowles, 52, of White Salmon (371st in 3:26:21), Cristhian Canseco, 26, of Vancouver (410th in 3:28:19), Matthew Lowry, 37, of Vancouver (476th in 3:30:31) and Chris Neibauer, 44, of Battle Ground (477th n 3:30:33).

The 44th edition of the Portland Marathon was won by Jameson Mora, 31, from Paso Robles, Calif. Mora’s time of 2:28:29 was 2 minutes and 41 seconds faster than runner-up Justin Weins from Albuquerque, N.M. Susie Scott of Portland was the women’s champion with a time of 2:51:23.

Thrower wins three gold medals

Janice Bradley of Battle Ground won three gold medals at the USA Track and Field National Masters Throws Championships, which were held Aug. 29-30 in Seattle.

Competing in the age division for women 75 and older, Bradley, 77, won the super weight throw, the throws pentathlon and the ultra weight pentathlon. Her super weight throw was 19 feet, 4.28 inches.

Bradley is ranked first nationally among women 75 and older in the super weight throw. She is ranked in the top 10 nationally in 10 events on the track and in the field.

Girlfriends run on Sunday

The ninth Girlfriends Race for the Cure Half and Quarter Marathon, a run and walk to benefit cancer research takes place on Sunday in Vancouver.

The women-only race starts at 9 a.m. near Northwest Personal Training, 1011 Broadway in downtown Vancouver.

The cost to run or walk is $80. Registration is open through Saturday at www.whyracingevents.com, or by calling 360-574-7292.

The half-marathon course is 13.1 miles. The quarter-marathon course is 6.55 miles. Money from the races is donated to the Oregon and Southwest Washington Chapter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
