Woodland — Using a $90,000 grant from the Washington State Arts Commission, Woodland High School hired artist Tim Prentice to create a sculpture to hang in the school. Prentice’s work was unveiled Oct. 30. His piece, titled “Reflections,” now resides in the building’s entryway. It features hanging panels that reflect light. A committee of school staff members, students, community members and local artists sorted through work by various artists before deciding on Prentice. “When putting together the committee, we wanted to bring together a broad range of perspectives of what art is and means,” Michael Smith, Woodland High’s 2-D/3-D art teacher, said in a news release from the district. “We wanted a piece that would represent Woodland, and this piece does just that, with the undulating panels representing the wind blowing through Woodland’s trees, while the reflected light in the panels feels like light being reflected off of Woodland’s rivers, streams and lakes.”
