People of faith seem to find plenty to fight about, don’t they?
“It is unfortunate but true, that there are many things that divide faith communities from one another,” said the Rev. Jessie Smith of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Washougal. “Thanksgiving offers us an opportunity to come together to celebrate our differences and what we have in common — gratitude for all that we have been given.”
Smith is organizing an Interfaith Service of Thanksgiving, 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at her church, 2350 Main St. in Washougal. It will include prayers and songs on the theme of gratitude from a variety of faith traditions and local congregations, including:
• The Islamic Society of Southwest Washington.
• Baha’is of Washougal.
• St. Joseph and St. Thomas Catholic churches of Camas and Vancouver.
• Zion Lutheran Church of Camas.
• The Chinook Nation of the Columbia Region.
• Camas Friends Church.
• Abundant Life Center of Vancouver.
• St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Washougal, the host site.
An offering will be taken for a new “safe car-camping” program aimed at letting homeless people sleep securely in their cars in church parking lots.
Everyone, of any or no faith tradition, is welcome. A potluck reception will follow, so please bring something to share.
