Thanks to a donation from a nonprofit group, Vancouver Police Department K-9 Tripp will receive a bullet- and stab-resistant vest, embroidered in memory of fallen police dogs Dakota and Ike.
Shana Green of Newcastle sponsored a donation through Massachusetts-based Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., which provides the vests for law enforcement dogs around the country.
“This vest will provide K9 Tripp extra protection while he serves the citizens of Vancouver,” Police Chief James McElvain said.
Since its inception in 2009, the group has provided over 1,600 protective vests to dogs in 49 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of more than $1.5 million. Each vest is worth between $1,795 and $2,234 and includes a five-year warranty. They weigh around 4 pounds.
