Applications will be accepted through Dec. 11 for money to improve the Gifford Pinchot National Forest or nearby lands.

The Forest Service is encouraging individuals, non-profit organizations, local governments and others to propose projects that restore watersheds, decommission or maintain roads, control invasive weeds or otherwise improve the forest.

Project do not need to be implemented on Forest Service land, but must show a benefit to the national forest.

Proposals must be submitted electronically. Applications forms, instructions and guidelines can be found online at www.fs.usda.gov/main/giffordpinchot/workingtogether/advisorycommittees.

Projects will be reviewed by advisory groups of forest stakeholders. The Forest Sevice will announce approved projects in early March.
