A Vancouver man accused of setting a fence and house on fire in July made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Thursday.

Aaron L. Chambers, 34, appeared on suspicion of first-degree arson, stemming from the July 22 incident in Vancouver’s Image neighborhood.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Chambers drove to 3014 N.E. 133rd Court, left his vehicle and approached the house with some sort of bottle in hand. He then splashed an unknown liquid on a fence and the side of the house and ignited it, the affidavit said.

Chambers allegedly fled the scene, court records said. The resident, Stephanie James, and her young children were home at the time, the affidavit said.

Chambers was caught on the home’s surveillance footage setting the fire, according to court documents.

The fire reportedly caused about $2,155 worth of damage to the residence.

On Thursday, Judge Robert Lewis set Chamber’s bail at $50,000. He will retain his own attorney, court records show.

Chambers is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 19.
