A Battle Ground man suspected of stealing jewelry valued at $100,000 made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Craig P. Corder, 50, appeared to face allegations of residential burglary, first-degree theft and trafficking in stolen property. He’s accused of breaking into a residence in the 9300 block of 279th St. in Battle Ground on Monday and stealing the jewelry, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The resident, Jack Schiefelbein, has security surveillance on his property, court records said, and captured the burglary. He also recognized the suspect as Corder, a former employee, the affidavit said.

Police contacted Corder at his Battle Ground home, where he allegedly admitted to entering Schiefelbein’s home and stealing the jewelry, according to court documents. Corder told police he sold the jewelry to stores in Battle Ground and Vancouver, however, he denied stealing as much jewelry as Schiefelbein claims was taken, court records said.

During his hearing, Judge Scott Collier set Corder’s bail at $40,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 13.
