A Vancouver man who allegedly brandished a gun at a crowd outside a tavern before firing off a couple of shots into the air made a first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Edward E. Frye, 41, appeared on suspicion of three counts of first-degree assault and one count of drive-by shooting in connection with the Sunday morning incident.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police responded shortly before 2 a.m. to the Quarterdeck Tavern, 4300 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd. in Vancouver, on a report of shots fired.

Three people, identified in court records as Joshua Livingston, Brian Laven and Kasey Bay, said Frye pointed the gun at them before he fired off the shots, the affidavit said. They said he left in a dark-colored Jaguar, according to court records.

Police said they located a shell-casing at the scene and later found Frye’s car about a block from the tavern. Police reportedly saw a shell-casing matching the one in the parking lot inside Frye’s car, court documents said.

On Monday, Judge Scott Collier appointed Charles Buckley to represent Frye and set his bail at $50,000.

Frye is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 13.
