State golf roundup: Udy, Hockinson both second at 2A state

Woodland golfer comes back with solid round of 75

Woodland’s Faith Udy cut eight shots off her first-round score to post a 75 and finish tied for second in the Class 2A girls state golf tournament in Spokane.

Udy finished with a 36-hole total of 158, well off the blistering pace set by Kenedee Peters of Ephrata who won the state title at 139.

Hockinson girls team had four players make the second round to help the Hawks finish second. Hockinson scored 89 points, second to Ephrata’s 121.

Cara Christensen led the Hawks at 170, tied for 12th with Ridgefield’s Coty Flack. Hockinson’s Shelby LaTourrette was right behind at 171.

3A girls — Fort Vancouver’s Bridget Standard shot the second-best round Thursday with a 72, allowing her to finish the tournament at 160 and tied for sixth.

4A girls — Union’s Taylor Hartley cut three shots off her first-round score to shoot a 78. Her 159 total was good for 10th place.

Combined with Reilly Whitlock’s 18th-place finish (165), Union placed third in the team standings.

4A boys — Camas’ Brian Humphreys missed a three-way tiebreaker for the state title by one shot, finishing in fourth place with a 36-hole total of 140.

Union’s Eddie Abellar shot 70 for the day to 142 for the tournament and finished tied for sixth.

2A boys — Hockinson’s Diego De La Torre followed up his 69 Wednesday with a 70 on Thursday to finish at 139 and in third place, six shots behind winner Aaron Whalen of Ephrata.

Bryce Samwel of Washougal and Ryan Sturdivan of Woodland tied for 15th at 148. Landon Joy of Hudson’s Bay finished a 152 and in 20th place.

1A boys — Clayton Rajewich of King’s Way Christian shot 149 for 36 holes to place tied for fifth overall.
