Free Fishing Weekend scheduled June 6-7

The Columbian

Washington’s annual “Free Fishing Weekend” — when no license is required — will be June 6 and 7.

Besides no license to fish in any water open, no vehicle access pass or Discover Pass will be required during the two days to park at any of almost 700 water-access sites maintained by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Anglers will not need a two-pole endorsement to fish with two rods on waters where two-pole fishing is allowed. Anglers also will not need a Columbia River endorsement to fish for salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River and tributaries.

Other rules such as size limits, bag limits and closures still will be in effect.

Anglers will need to complete a catch-record card for any salmon or steelhead caught.

June 6 also is opening day at Swift Reservoir on the North Fork of the Lewis River. The 4,500-acre lake will be stocked with 60,000 rainbow trout prior to the opener.
