Ridgefield — It was a small world in downtown Ridgefield on May 1, as students from each grade in Union Elementary School celebrated cultural diversity by marching in the second annual Culture Day Parade.
Each grade was assigned a different topic. Kindergartners studied timelines of major events from their birth until present, first-graders presented on different pets from around the world, second-graders studied the Japanese holiday of Children’s Day, third-graders learned about different physical and cultural characteristics of different parts of America, fourth-graders each presented on Newbery Award-winning authors, fifth-graders read biographies of people who contributed major shifts in culture and sixth-graders studied Holi, the Festival of Colors celebrated in India.
Superintendent Nathan McCann and Principal Angela Freeman served as Masters of Ceremony, and the View Ridge Middle School Marching Band performed to close the parade.
