A suspected intoxicated driver caused a crash that sent two people to the hospital early Friday morning.

Christopher J. O’Brien, 36, of Vancouver was driving a grey 2010 Kia Forte east on Northeast 76th Street approaching state Highway 503 at about 1:40 a.m., according to Washington State Patrol.

O’Brien went through the traffic light despite it having turned red, according to state patrol.

He struck a southbound 1994 Buick Century that had just entered the intersection, troopers reported.

Both O’Brien and the driver of the Buick, Willie J. Duran, 58, of Portland, were injured in the crash and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Both were treated and released from the hospital.

O’Brien was cited for suspicion of driving under the influence and failing to obey a traffic control device.
