Portland police say no shots fired in airport-area assault

Portland police have cleared the scene of what was initially reported as a shooting Friday afternoon in the 12000 block of Northeast Airport Way (East of the I-205 bridge).

Investigators learned that no shots had been fired in the 2 p.m. incident, though one man had been pistol-whipped by another man. Detectives are following-up to determine what led up to the assault.

The suspect left the scene was not located. All traffic lanes have been reopened.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his 20s, 5’8″ tall, 115 pounds, wearing a black sweatshirt with white writing on the back and blue jeans.

A witness described the suspect running towards Marine Drive from the area of Home Depot.

Marine Drive was presently closed to all traffic, from 122nd to 33rd Avenue, as police searched the area for the suspect.

North Precinct officers are being assisted by Port of Portland Police, Gresham Police, and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone seeing a person matching the suspect’s description in the area should call 9-1-1. Witnesses or anyone with non-emergency information should call the Police Non-Emergency Line at 503-823-3333.
