Two people were displaced by a fire Wednesday night in an east Vancouver home.

The blaze was caused by a malfunction or failure of a motorcycle battery, according to Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli.

The motorcycle was located inside the garage, but firefighters attacked flames they found in the attic of the house, 707 N.E. 137th Ave. The fire was reported just before 8 p.m.

The fire caused more than $84,000 to the structure and content, Scarpelli said.

The two residents of the house were assisted by Red Cross volunteers and provided with lodging, food, clothing, comfort kits, and recovery information.
