Clark County — Clark County deputies helped pick up trash along riverfronts as part of an effort to clean up area shorelines in late March.

The effort was spearheaded by the Multnomah County (Ore.) Sheriff’s Office. Each week, a different police agency patrolled the waters and collected garbage. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office marine patrol unit collected trash from the Columbia and North Fork Lewis rivers.

Marine patrol Deputy Todd Baker said the largest concentration of trash was found near the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay and downstream to the Port of Vancouver.

He helped clean up abandoned transient camps and removed two boatloads of garage, but it wasn’t anywhere close to all the trash that’s collected on local shorelines, he said.
