YouthBuild, a community-based alternative education program for Clark County residents ages 17 to 24, is having a free information session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and again June 9 at Partners in Careers, 3210 N.E. 52nd St. Participants must be in need of a high school diploma or GED and interested in gaining job experience and leadership skills through apprenticeships and industry certifications in construction trades.
The program offers academic training and community service, including helping build a house for a needy family. Enrollees will have the opportunity to obtain a GED or high school diploma, gain a nationally-recognized construction certification, and receive college or career counseling.
YouthBuild is a collaboration of the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, Partners in Careers, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, Vancouver Housing Authority and WorkSource. It is funded through a three-year, $1.1 million grant from the Department of Labor.
